George McDonald portrait

Influential and innovative novelist and poet George MacDonald was born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire. The son of a farmer, MacDonald was one of the most original and significant figures in Victorian literature.

A substantial and important collection of his writings, the majority in manuscript and many showing significant differences from the published version, was gifted to the Brander Library, Huntly.

The original manuscript items from the collection are now located at The Discovery Centre, Mintlaw, where they may be consulted by appointment.

Selected manuscripts have been digitised. View them here
