When a space becomes available you will receive an email with instructions on what happens next. Once the space has been confirmed via email, payment must be made within the first week of the lessons starting.

Once your space is confirmed you will also receive an activation link to our HomePortal. Here you will be able to make future payments as well as check on attendance and progress.

Continuous Programme

Live Life Aberdeenshire made the decision in November 2019 to deliver our swimming lessons in a continuous manner, meaning lessons will continue through school holidays, with the exception of Christmas.

Participants can now move up a level when they are ready and there is space, rather than waiting until the end of term as was the case previously. This approach will ensure we get the highest possible number of children through our swimming lesson programme throughout the year and help us to tackle a large waiting list.

Preparing to attend swimming lessons for the first time

We recommend bringing your child to swim with the family during public sessions. This will help your child get used to the feelings, sounds and smells associated with the swimming pool. Have fun in the water and boost your child's confidence by practicing simple skills such as blowing bubbles, floating on their front and back and submerging in the water. Find more information on the Scottish Swimming website: Swimming Games.

If your child is attending lessons for the first time and has been used to wearing their own swimming aids; please bring these along as this may provide some comfort to them in the first few lessons. The swimming instructors will remove these when your child is ready. Otherwise, the facility will provide the swimming aids for each lesson. If your child is allergic to any materials or equipment used in swimming aids, please let us know beforehand and we can aim to organise an alternative option as best we can.

Health and Safety around swimming pools

Parents/guardians are respectfully requested not to walk on poolside with their children (except as part of Adult and Child classes)

Lesson participants should always walk while on the poolside and never run.

Swimmers should arrive on poolside no more than 5 minutes prior to the lesson starting and gather at the appropriate designated area indicated for their class/ level. Ask staff at the reception area if you are unsure of where children should wait prior to lessons.

Lesson participants should only ever enter the pool when directed by the swimming instructor or swimming pool staff.

Parents or adult participants must inform Live Life Aberdeenshire of any conditions which may affect the enjoyment or safety of the participant.

Expected standards of behaviour

All swimmers must behave in a way that is not disruptive to other swimmers, Instructors or facility staff.

Any conduct that is deemed disruptive or affects the safety of others will result in the individual being removed from the lesson and potentially from the Learn To Swim programme.

What happens if my swimming lesson is cancelled by Live Life Aberdeenshire?

If for any reason, we need to cancel your swimming lesson you will receive an automated email and the cancelled sessions will not be deducted from your account.

General guidance for parents/carers when attending swim lessons

All children should be accompanied into the facility to confirm that lessons are going ahead before leaving.

Parents of children under the age of 8 years old must remain at the pool while lessons are taking place, and the child must always be supervised throughout the building.

Swimming Instructors are only responsible for swimmers during their swimming lesson, this does not include the changing rooms before or after lessons.

Parents, relatives or friends of the swimmer are permitted to spectate at a number of Live Life Aberdeenshire swimming pools, however, should a spectator be distracting a swimmer, the spectator may be asked to leave the pool area.

No photography, filming or electronic devices are permitted to be used in the swimming pool or changing areas in accordance with our Child Protection policies. If you use an electronic device such as a mobile phone on poolside then you may be asked to leave the pool hall.

Please do not distract the Instructor while they are teaching, this includes ensuring that any siblings of swimmers are fully supervised at all times within the swimming pool building.

During lesson times the changing areas are naturally busier than normal. Please use lockers provided. Swimmers clothes should not be left unsecured and must be removed from the changing cubicle for the duration of the lesson. Any items left in in the cubicle, whilst not in use may be removed and placed in lost property.

Swimmer illness/infection

If your child is unwell, we recommend that you do not bring them to their lesson. Again, if they have had any sickness or diarrhoea within the last 48 hours they should not attend.

Please do not contact the Swimming Coordinator to report an illness unless it is to be a long term period that the child may be absent.

Credits or refunds will only be considered under exceptional circumstances: for example, where a pupil suffers a long term illness or hospitalisation that can be supported by medical evidence. No refunds/credits will be backdated beyond the date of notification.

Please speak to the swimming coordinator on site if you have any questions regarding the Learn to Swim programme.
